1) Minnesota: Peterson v. Western Nat’l. Mut. Ins. Co. (July 29, 2020): Minnesota Supreme Court, holding, 5-2, that an UIM insurer committed bad faith in denying an insured’s claim and in so doing analyzed the prongs of the Minnesota first-party bad faith statute. (Stacy Broman)

2) Pennsylvania: Berg v. Nationwide Mut. Ins. Co. (August 25, 2020): Pennsylvania Supreme Court affirms reversal of a $21 million bad faith award. (Mike Hamilton)

3) Georgia: Whiteside v. GEICO (September 28, 2020): 11th Circuit certifies 3 questions to the Georgia Supreme Court involving a $2.7 million award for failing to accept a $30,000 policy limit settlement demand. (John Bonnie)

4) Florida: Aldana v. Progressive Am. Ins. Co. (October 1, 2020): 11th Circuit, applying Florida law, reviving a $50 million bad faith suit on the basis that sufficient evidence existed that the insurer failed in bad faith to settle the family’s claims. (Meghan Moore)
